| All of the rules used during
the regular season continue to apply, with the following variations or
situations worth highlighting: 1. There are no balk
warnings for pitchers of any age. (See Rule 10.3.a.) Umpires should be told of
this rule during pre-game discussions.
2. Pitching used during the
final weekend or week of the season does not
count against playoff week pitching limitations, as described below.
3. The "playoff pitching
week" for 13 and 14 year old players is defined as starting with the first day of playoffs and continuing until the playoffs are over. Note that even if the playoffs are postponed, resulting in
games being played beyond the scheduled completion of the playoffs, the pitching week limitation extends until
the entire playoff program (which is a maximum of 4 games for any team) is
completed. (See Rule 10.3.b. second sentence.)
4. A pitcher's total innings
limitation for his Minuteman Baseball League team is 8 (not 6) during the "playoff pitching
week" as defined above. (See Rule 10.3.b. first sentence.) So the easy way
to think of this is that each 13 and 14 year-old pitcher has 8 innings to use
spread across his team's playoff games, regardless of when they are played.
5. 15 year-old
pitching limitation
for the playoffs. There will be a 4 inning maximum rule for the first 2 games
and then a second 4 inning maximum rule for the second 2 games. This rule
applies to the total number of innings that can be pitched by a 15-year old. All
other pitching rules remain unchanged.
1. Player A, a 15 yr old, pitched 3 innings in
the first round (game 1 of the playoffs). No other 15 yr old can
pitch in round 1 as the max total for all 15 yr olds in a game
is 3 innings. Player A is available to pitch 1 inning in Round 2
on Friday if their Round 1 game was played on Monday, Tuesday or
Wednesday respectively. If the round 1 game was pushed out for
some reason to Thursday, and Round 2 was played on Friday, then,
Player A under the same circumstances would be ineligible to
pitch on Friday, given that these are back to back days and
having pitched 3 innings Thursday, disqualifies him for pitching
Friday.
2. Player A, a 15 yr old, didn't pitch in rounds
1 or 2, but, pitched 3 innings in round 3 on Saturday. Although
he may be entitled to pitch one more inning in round 4, he would
be ineligible to pitch in Round 4 if the Round 4 game was played
on Sunday, as he can't pitch on back to back days if on the
first day he pitched 3. However, if Sunday's game (for weather
reasons) was pushed out to Monday, he would be eligible to pitch
one more inning.
3. Player A, a 15 yr old, didn't pitch round
1. He pitches 3 in round 2 on Friday night. While this player
has a fresh set of 4 15-year old innings available for round 3
and 4, this pitcher would be ineligible to pitch in Round 3,
given this is a back to back game with Round 2 and given he
pitched 3 innings in Round 2, disqualifies him.
6. The home team in any
playoff game is the team with the highest original seed in its bracket.
Therefore, for example, if the #8 seed defeated the #1 seed in the first playoff
round, that #8 seed would be the visiting team against the winner of the #4 vs.
#5 matchup, regardless of the fact that #8 took over the #1 seed's spot in the
playoff progression.
7. Please be aware that the
home team in a given game may be scheduled to play on a field in a town other
than its own. In fact, two teams from different towns may end up playing on a
field in a third town. This can be due to several factors, such as limited field
availability, a town's teams requiring more home games than field slots
available, team scheduling constraints (such as school trips or end-of-year
events).
8. Each manager should be
prepared to pay one-half the total umpire fees on the field prior to game time. (See Rule
6.2. second sentence.)
Good luck and have fun!
