SUMMER LEAGUE PLAYOFF RULES

SUMMER LEAGUE PLAYOFF RULES AND CONSIDERATIONS

All of the rules used during the regular summer season continue to apply, with the following variations or situations worth highlighting:

1. The "playoff pitching week" for 13 and 14 year old players is defined as starting with the first day of playoffs and continuing until the playoffs are over. Note that even if the playoffs are postponed, resulting in games being played beyond the scheduled completion of the playoffs, the pitching week limitation extends until the entire playoff program  is completed. (See Rule 10.3.2. second sentence.)

2. A pitcher's total innings limitation for his Minuteman Summer League team is 9 (not 8) during the "playoff pitching week" as defined above. So the easy way to think of this is that each 13 and 14 year-old pitcher has 9 innings to use spread across his team's playoff games, regardless of when they are played.

3. No player (13 or 14 yrs old) may pitch more than 9 innings in a Summer League Tournament/Playoff game.  Additionally, a player (13, 14 or 15 yrs old) is not allowed to pitch on back-to-back days if the player has pitched 3 or more innings on the first day.  Thus, for example, a player pitches 3 innings on Tuesday, that player may not pitch on Wednesday.

4. 15 year-old pitching limitation for the playoffs. There will be a 4 inning maximum per game (with a limit of 8 total innings pitched by all 15 year old players) for the first 2 games (Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday), then a second 4 inning maximum per game (with a limit of 4 total innings pitched by all 15 year old players) for the Finals scheduled for Saturday.  See below for examples of pitching 15 yr olds.

5. The home team in any playoff game is the team with the highest original seed in its bracket. Therefore, for example, if the #8 seed defeated the #1 seed in the first playoff round, that #8 seed would be the visiting team against the winner of the #4 vs. #5 matchup, regardless of the fact that #8 took over the #1 seed's spot in the playoff progression.

6. Each manager should be prepared to pay one-half the total umpire fees on the field prior to game time. (See Rule 6.2. second sentence.)

7. Playoff games are NOT required to be played to completion (7 or more full innings).  If a game is stopped by the umpire(s) after a game becomes official (4 1/2 innings with home team ahead or 5 innings with the home team behind), the game is over. If a game is stopped before it becomes an official game, it shall be resumed from its point of discontinuance the following day weather permitting and played until a winner is declared.  If a team cannot field a team the following day then they will forfeit, and the other team will move on in the playoffs. The 12 run mercy rule is in effect as described in Rule 11.8 in the rule book.

Good luck and have fun!

Summer Program Update

Greetings,

Governor Baker announced that phase three will not go into effect until July 6th. We are going to push the schedule one week to start on July 6th. We will still have a 12-game schedule for the kids so the season will start July 6th and will end on August 7th. Playoffs will start on August 10th and the championship games will be on August 15th. Sorry for this but we must follow guidelines and the extra week might be good for field openings, practices and purchasing uniforms. If anyone owes Dale any information such as team strengths, team names, fields you will be using or anything else please get that information to him. Also, with this change we will move the managers tele-conference from June 24th  I will send out a meeting reminder.

Thanks,

Mike Chambers & Dale Clutter
